2 5 1 licks

I really like your well rounded Jazz Pianist in 42 minutes video. You provide that sheet with 2, 5, 1 melodic drills. They seem so helpful and I am wondering if you could go more indepth on some specific ways to practice/drill those. You play one lick that I can't seem to find on the sheet you provided. Thank you!

how to get to a better jazzy "triplet" feel when playing. Not just rythm but also which notes to emphasize and play louder and which softer.

you sound is very swingin. I have tried some of your Oscar Peterson exercises for vocabulary, but struggle to get it really as catchy sounding. What exercises to use to improve this?

A video on the teachings of Barry Harris

Rowan 8 years ago 0

Recently I came across a goldmine of jazz and blues theory that is Barry Harris' you tube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCERBMUJODkIZM4fPMc2ATAg. I would really appreciate it if you could make a video explaining how to effectively learn and apply Barry's teachings to your Jazz or blues playing. For example his voicings ; movement in and out of the diminished scale to move from chord to chord and use of rhythm in right hand melodic lines.

Thanks,

Rowan

Preventing and overcoming common injuries and strains

TJ Perry 8 years ago updated by Metta Legita 8 years ago 1

I've recently been experiencing wrist pain while writing a new arrangement. My teacher says there isn't anything wrong with my technique, but it's something that comes up from time to time. I have to imagine professional musicians deal with similar strains, so how do you get through it and what do you do to prevent it outside of the warmup exercises in your "42 minutes" video?
