Ballad reharmonization

nish_tkyjo 7 years ago 0

I enjoy your lyrical and melodic playing.

When we play a ballad it's particulary important to reharmonize and voice the chords in away that ambience is haunting.

I believe you can make a video to teach us do it. Thank you.

What's a good way to prepare for grad school auditions?

kiesnyc@gmail com 8 years ago 0

I'm graduating in this December and I'd love to really take the next year preparing for grad school auditions and boning up on my chops. Although I've played the piano for many years, I don't have a lot of professional experience not do I have a structured way of practicing. What are some ways I can thoroughly prepare for entering grad school and sustaining my time there.

Thank you

Clair de Lune

After finding your Autumn Leaves tutorial, you have personally inspired me to want to learn much more on the piano. I know that you would probably have to do this tutorial in parts, but I would really love it if you would teach me how to play Clair de Lune! Thank you :)

Andrew Hill

Caleb 8 years ago 0

So far no instructor on YouTube has analyzed or commented on the playing of the great jazz pianist Andrew Hill. If you get the chance,

please do a video explaining some of the concepts/voicings/solo techniques he used. I think it would show people something new in jazz as opposed to always hearing about Hancock and Tyner (even though they are great). Thanks, I appreciate it, hope to see a video soon.

habit of mindless playing scales instead of music

shemh 8 years ago 0

Hi

Im from Poland abd I use google translator ,I hope You understand me :) In which scale we play it is dependent on the chord in accompaniment, right? So how can I play in one selected scale when changing chord in progression I automatically change mood / scale?

How it looks chord progression for each scales?

For example, playing chords C major and G7 in which scale will be solo: c,d,e,d,f?

Ionic or mixolydian? Ionian with Cmaj and mixolydian with G7 ,right?

So how can I play in one selected scale for two different chords in progression?

Could You give an example of progression characteristic for one selected scale and explain how to play solo in mood of this one selected scale if chords in accompaniment are changing?

I tell You how I see it

(D,E,F,G,A,B,C,D) together with Dm = dorian mood, right? (D,E,F,G,A,B,C,D) with Dm will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 of dorian degrees but when I change/replace Dm on G7 then (D,E,F,G,A,B,C,D) become 5,6,7,1,2,3,4 mixolydian degrees . Even if I play mixolydian shape (g,a,b,c,d,e,f,g) with Dm chord it is still dorian mood because (g,a,b,c,d,e,f,g) are 4,5,6,7,1,2,3 dorian degrees

Right or not?

When I started to learn music ,I focus on chords ,scales and created nasty habit in this way - habit of mindless playing scales instead of music. How to get rid of it?

Besides there is something more No one taught me how to compose in different music generes I would like to know how to arrange accompaniment which is based on a simple C major chord, once will be flamenco then the country, funk, bossa etc etc The same chord, harmony is the same, the same notes but different genres - how to do it for jumping between different styles? Could You recommend some good literature for learning?

PS.I would like to have Dr. Michael Chamberlin seminar notes from ORIGINAL PRESENTATION - World Saxophone Congress, 2015 Strasbourg France Do You have it?Could You help me with get this pdf?
